Zzzzz

Zealous Zs Zing, Zig, (&) Zag

So, I named this post Zzzzz because it's the end. The challenge is over, now we can all take a breather and relax. No need to get the posts up on time or make sure we hop around to a few blogs everyday. While I will miss the challenge, it's still a bit of relief.

Okay, I'll still be making sure I have posts up on time(because this is my weird OCD and I have to post at a certain time just because) and I'll still be hopping around blogs. But...well, I don't know that there is a 'but' other than-it's over.

Are you happy it's over? Are you going to be in withdraw come tomorrow? Will you continue to find new blogs with the Linky list? Did you meet lots of new people? Find some awesome blogs? Find some blogs you thought were the weirdest thing out there? Boring blogs?

I had fun, and I met new people, and found some interesting blogs. Thanks to everyone for visiting me, hope you stick around after the challenge. :)

Happy Zzzzz-ing :)

Review: Become by Ali Cross

Five Stars to BECOME by Ali Cross

This book was a (surprise) win from NiNoCon. When I entered the contest it was a Become swag pack, but the book (and is that not a fabulous cover!?!) wasn't a part of my win at first. Ali is one of the most awesome people I've met (on or off-line) and she's one of those authors that writes awesomeness and is still a sweetheart. That author you LOVE who you meet and you're like, wow-she's genuine and nice...real.

Needless to say, I was super excited to read it and it went beyond my expectations. Make sure you add this book to your TBR if you haven't, it's worth it. Check Ali out at her website, you can read her TAG! here, she's also a member of the Indelibles, and the Sensei at Ninjas Write. Check her out, she's AWESOME!!!

Desolation Black is a special kind of girl, being the daughter of Lucifer and having lived in Hell for most of her life. She's awkward and unsure and super likeable. As I went through page after page of this unique take on Angels vs Demons, I loved Desi more and more. Each time I had to put the book down was saddening because I just wanted to read, read, read.

This is another book I hate to give spoilers on, but if you realllllly want it, go ahead and click read more. Though I really think you should just go read it.

YES! YAY! YIPEE!!!

Yearnings Yank Your Yesterdays

Okay, so this is my week all wrapped up, but I have to say-while I named my post as if I'm happy, I'm not. Well, okay maybe it's a little nice that the month is almost over, but it's also sad. I don't know what I will make my schedule. I was doing the to do list, but I'm all done with that. I still have my TAG!s but I was so focused on the challenge I didn't ask more people and now I'm going to be scrambling. Hey, any writers reading this, feel free to leave your email in the comments if you'd like to do a TAG. I mean, I do have some coming up, but just not enough. I was booked up better, I'm so slacking.

This week was okay, I'm still struggling to adjust to one of my meds. I've spent the week napping WAY too much. My lack of energy has made me a little irritable. I need all the energy I can get, not having any is hard to handlePlus, being so tired makes it hard to get anything done. It's challenging enough to manage my kiddos. With the little bit of energy I do have being spent on the little ones, I can't get anything else accomplished.

No housework, no writing, no revising. I've been (barely) getting critiques done. It's so frustrating. I hate not writing, and taking it easy is not a strong suit of mine. I want to do something, anything, that is productive. But every time I think I can-next thing I know I'm waking up from a nap. GRRRR.

Anyway, the challenge is almost over and now I have to get back to my regular schedule...I'm not sure what I will fill my Mondays and Wednesdays with. I may have to skip some M/Ws until I can work it out. I can say that I will have some contests coming up FOR SURE! It's so exciting, I have some awesome books. :D One will be around the second week of May and the other will be around the end of May-beginning of June (hopefully). So make sure you stick around :)

And that's my week wrapped up-sort of.

How do you feel now that the challenge is almost over? Are you happy or sad? Are you ready to go back to your regular schedule? Are you going to keep checking the blogs on the linky list after the challenge is over? I will :)

Happy Saturday :)

X-Files

I probably could have thought long and hard for a way to make a sentence with all Xs, but I'm just not going to. I will say that if you missed my post yesterday, please go check it out after you read this one. Here's the link. :)

So in keeping with the paranormaly supernatural fantastical Fridays of the A to Z Challenge, I have some X-Files. Yeah, I don't really have any X-Files, BUT I have some paranormal/supernatural things for you today.

Zombies:

They come in different forms these days, but there is one thing that always sticks...They crave brains/human flesh. Why is that? I've never understood much about the whole Zombie thing really. I mean, if they're supposed to be brain dead people wandering around basically moaning about nothing (except brains or human flesh) how are they able to wander around wanting those things?
(A little edit: Caterina Torres (author of Zombie Whisperer) talks a lot about Zombies over at her website-go check her out, she's even got a short story series and it's pretty good :)   )

Vampires:

These 'undead' beings have definitely changed since Dracula stepped on the scene back in the day. Granted there are legends that talk about nightstalkers that roam the villages feeding of the necks of humans that date back into the era around 1045A.D. However, it was Dracula that really put them on the map. Nowadays, vampires come in many different forms-the pasty white hotties that Charlaine Harris is so fond of all the way to the sparkling swoon-worthy creations of Stephenie Meyer.

For anyone who doesn't know what I write about, vampires are my supe of preference(though I also have a series about shape-shifters that I'm working on). Vamps are my choice. My vampires are not like Harris', Meyer's or even Rice's-mine are, well, mine. They are not undead, or sparkly, or evil. They don't drink bottled blood, but they don't feed off of necks either. My vamps drink freely donated bagged blood.

Anyway, I love me a sexy vamp and I love me a evil pasty contorted faced vamp. I love vampires in general, and I will never tire of them. However,  I've heard rumors that vampires are over used and people are getting burnt out on them and eventually (some say it will be VERY soon) vampires will be a thing of the past that nobody can even stand to hear about. What do you think? Tired of vampires? OR will you be able to handle them diferences-or not?

Weres/Shape-shifters:

I know that weres are not exactly shape-shifters. I also know that many people write about werewolves more than weres in general. And that shape-shifters can (and a lot of times do) mean people who can shift into the shape of other people. I write about shape-shifters that shift into various animals, but they aren't weres because, well, they just aren't. What I wonder is, what happened to the good ol' fashioned werewolf and why is he not so popular anymore? I don't write about werewolves just because it doesn't fit my theme, but that doesn't mean I don't like them. I like the wolf-man that werewolves used to be. Not the gigantic wolf, or even the normal looking wolf that man shifts into. I don't have a problem with the new-aged style of werewolves, I just never had a problem with the old ones.

I could keep talking about other things...actually, why not:

Fae:

These spritely little creatures come in lots of different packages nowadays too. How do you like do see Fairy's (AKA Faeries) portrayed. Do you like the Tinkerbell variety or the human-looking kind? I like them all personally.

Aliens:

They come in different packages nowadays too, huh? They used to always be either evil monstrous creatures or green funny looking men with big ass black eyes-now they're humans walking around looking normal and even having sex with people like normal. What's that about? Not that I mind, I tend to actually enjoy the books about Aliens that look normal more than others.

Witches/Wizards:

These two don't always fall into a category together, but I'm trying to keep my post at least semi-short. So, do you like the Wiccan witches that sometimes have some supernatural powers but mostly congregate in their circle chanting and what not---or are you partial to the broom riding, pointy hat wearing, cackling over a cauldron kind of witches? I myself like the witches that are more normal. And wizards, I love me some Harry P, and actually, I don't know much else about wizards so yeah...

Demons:

Evil or no? Do you prefer them evil or nice and hot? Or both? ;)

Okay, now I'm done-enjoy. :)

Happy X-Filing :D

Wistful TAG! - M Pax

Wistful Wishes Willingly Wander

Today's TAG! took some digging (on my part) which is funny because I was following her blog before it hit me. I bring you-M. Pax from Wistful Nebulae. She is an awesome author, blogger and nice person all around. I don't know much about her, but her blog is awesome and I've read a short story of hers, which is awesome and well...she's awesome. You can find info about her and her stories here, and she can be found on Twitter and Facebook. Make sure to go check her out (after you read the TAG! of course :) (She even has some free reads on her blog as well.)

1. When did you start writing?
I’ve written in spurts most of my life. The more serious stuff started at least several years ago.

2. What made you want to write?
I’ve always wanted to write. This enduring bout began with a phone call with my mother. I was feeling lost and she said, “You were always good at writing. Go write me something.” I don’t feel lost any more.

3. When did you decide you wanted to write to be published? (As opposed to writing just to write)
About five years ago.

4. What genre(s) do you write?
I write science fiction and fantasy, and delve into general and speculative fiction.

5. Why that(those) genre(s)?
I read a lot of literature and I love science fiction. I like stories that surprise me and make me think.

6. Do you have any particular ritual when you write? (A specific way things are done during the process)
No. Other than I do most of my writing in the morning.

7. Do you use an outline, or do you just start writing?
This process keeps changing. I have a rough outline. I know where I’ll end up and I’ll know what I want to say in general. Now I outline chapter by chapter, and I do more character development before I start than I used to.

8. Is there something you MUST have when you're writing? (Aside from the typical writer tools-computer, pen, paper, etc)
Quiet and inspiration.

9. Do you write out your story on paper and then transfer to a computer, or straight to the computer?
Straight on the computer. Although any planning and outlining is done in journals. I have a journal for each project.

10. How many books/short stories have you written? (Published or not, even those you wrote and then thought-what the hell?)
I lost count. I wrote four first drafts of novels before I started my latest two series. I’ve written at least twelve novellas, and that many or more short stories. Many of the novellas will be later coaxed into novels.

11. Is there, or has there been, anyone in your life (real or online) who thought you being a writer is/was just another hobby? Or that you are/were wasting your time as a writer?
I’m sure some people I know in real life think that. Only they don’t tell me. Which is a good thing.

12. Do you do Social Media sites? If so, which ones? If not, why don't you?
Yes. My favorites are e-mail. the blog network and Twitter. I’m also on Goodreads, FB, LinkedIN, YouTube and Pinterest. Stumble. Triberr. I’m sure I’m missing a few. I don’t really get Pinterest or why it’s popular. I’m not very active on FB or LinkedIn.

13. Any advice for writers that makes you cringe every time you hear it? (I know there is some cringe-worthy advice still worth following, so only advice you don't follow.)
Hard and fast rules of writing. There aren’t any. Know them and learn them, but don’t be afraid to toss them aside in favor of your own voice and style.

14. What's your favorite Sci-Fi book of all time?
Just one? I'd probably pick the Dune series by Frank Herbert. Followed closely by the Confederation Novels by Tanya Huff, and 2001: A Space Odyssey by Arthur C. Clarke.

15. With all the books you've written, where do you find time to do things outside of writing?
I have pretty strict schedules. Even with that, it's hard to get everything done. Some things just don't or get forgotten about. The cats make sure they get their cuddles. One's sitting with me right now. They don't let me forget about them. Most of my social life revolves around writing or the observatory. The Husband Unit is very supportive.

16. Are you Traditional, Indie, or completely Self Published?
I have a story coming out in an anthology this year. Otherwise I am Indie and do it all myself I love it. After I get my two series launched this year, I will probably start submitting short fiction again. If I find time to write outside of the series. We are fortunate to have options at this point in time. I hope we work together as a profession to keep those options open.

17. Why did you go that route?
I figured it might be the only way to make a living at writing fiction, especially a niche like science fiction. I felt I was ready for that step. After a lot of study, research, and thought, it made the most sense to me. I've always been independent-minded anyway, so this really suits me. I love having control of the product from start to finish. With that said, mine are not the only hands on it. I hire an editor, and thankfully, found one I like lots. I have critique partners, too, and another lovely friend who helps me with videos and book covers.

18. Where did you get the name of your blog, Wistful Nebulae?
It came from a poem I wrote a long time ago in college. It was called DreamPlay. It's on my website, but it goes like this:

Sailing on a comet’s tail
the spinning sun zips by
singeing careless strands of hair
enchanted by its light

S c a t t e r e d pieces of glitter
stain the endless black
pouring through the Milky Way
into the limitless I seek

Tripping over Saturn’s rings
I stumble from my ride
To take a tumble on the Moon
to land on Pegus’s back

~ we cry ~

Lifting wishes from Orion’s belt
while drifting on their sighs
I clasp one tightly and begin to dance
with wistful nebulae

19. What do you do when you aren't writing?
I’m the blog director for my local writers guild. I work at Pine Mountain Observatory in the summers as a star guide. I work.

20. Any words of wisdom for anyone who is thinking of becoming a writer, or just something you think all writers should know?
Write, write and write, and meet other writers to talk with and hang out with now and then.

Volunteer

Very sorry, I have no sentence today. I'm still working on getting used to my meds, I'm good to have coherent blog posts :p

Volunteer

Okay, so I know not everyone volunteers. And to be honest when this came to mind I was thinking of myself. I volunteer (or at least try to) as often as possible at my kids schools. I like to be involved and volunteering gives me that opportunity. BUT I also think volunteering comes in many ways. Writers volunteer to critique for other writers, or any one volunteers to be beta readers. OR even volunteering to read a book and do a review of it. Volunteering to guest blog or host a guest on your blog. Anything/service your offering without wanting anything in return (other than satisfaction that you did something nice).

This to do isn't necessarily daily, weekly, or even monthly-but it should be on your list. Volunteering is good for the soul. Find time somewhere in your schedule to do something to help someone out, just because.

I have a great TAG! tomorrow, please come by and check it out.

Also, I announced on Sunday that I will have a contest soon. I think I will have a couple-maybe, I haven't decided for sure, but I am pretty sure. I know at least one book I will be giving away and it's a fabulous read. Stay tuned in May :)

One more thing, and it's AWESOME! Alex J Cavanaugh is having a contest!!! It's an amazing giveaway for the winner's school or library of choice. Now, go check it out! :D

Happy Volunteering :)

Unite

Unite

In times of need, our online friends are just as important as anyone else. Like recently with me being sick, everyone came to my blog and commented with well wishes. It really helped me, knowing that I had a lot of people who care. When your online friends need something, make an effort to show them you're there.

Now, what really made me think of this word is this:

I don't know Joshua's dad and I don't know Joshua, but I do feel the need to Unite for him. With just over a month left and almost $3300 left until the goal is met-I knew this was the best post I could do for U.

It's been a few months since I learned of Joshua's fight against cancer and I've been supporting this cause ever since. Joshua is a 21 year old young man who was diagnosed with Leukemia. His father is an author by the name of Maxwell Cynn. You can read the post about Joshua's diagnosis here.

There are also videos about this cause and announcements/updates here. The hashtag for talking about this cause online is #IndiesUnite4Joshua

I know my posts keep being a bit serious lately, but there are things that keep happening or coming into my mind that just happen to be a little serious. I've wanted to use this cause as a topic for a post for a while, and now I have.

Unite for Joshua...Unite period. Take time to be there for your online friends. Many of the supporters for Joshua's campaign are online friends that his dad Maxwell met over the years of blogging and taking part in online writer groups and whatnot. Some are just Twitter friends. Some are online friends of other online friends. The point is, you never know when you will need your online friends-they're important, so show them that you know that they are. And be there for them when they need it. If you haven't heard about Joshua and his fight, please take a moment to visit the site and read more about Joshua and his fight.

Happy Uniting :)

Time

Time Tends To Take Thinking

Time

This is a funny to do, but it's the most important. Every day, with all we have going on, it's hard to just find time. Time for us, time to relax and just do something we enjoy or do nothing at all. This is the hardest thing for me to mark off. I'm not good with finding time just for myself.

That also means I don't have a good way to help anyone else mark it off the list. So why am I posting about it if I can't even help? Because I want to make sure everyone does have it on their list. It's as important for our mental health as dating is-almost more. We need time when we're just doing something for the hell of it. I love to write, but that doesn't mean I don't need to take a break from it sometimes. I love to read but I even have to step away from that every once and a while.

Sometimes I want to just play a mindless video game or go sit outside in the sun and just enjoy. I'm telling you to make sure you put time on your to do and find a way to mark it off. Do whatever is mindless and relaxing, whatever it is just do it.

Happy Enjoyment Time :)

Something Sunday

With my crazy week and the fact that I'm still trying to rest and get better, I haven't put a lot of thought into what I wanted to recommend this Sunday. So, what else do I do when I can't think of something to write (well, besides my random thoughts)? Yep, I boast about something! Some of these books will be ones I've already talked about, but I just really think people need to check 'em out...because they're AWESOME! :D

Become by Ali Cross (I've done a TAG! with her. You can find it here)
Bound by C.K. Bryant (I reviewed the book here if you want to see my review first)
Tangled Tides by Karen Amanda Hooper (I have a TAG! coming up with her next month, make sure to keep an eye out ;)
Thoughtless by Jacqueline Gardner (Did a TAG! with her here)
CassaStar by Alex J Cavanaugh
CassaFire by Alex J Cavanaugh
Ashfall by Mike Mullin (There's a TAG! coming up next month with him as well) (I also reviewed this book here)
Zombie Whisperer by Caterina Torres (There is already a TAG! on her-she was my first :)
The Sister Queens by Sophie Perinot (This is a Historical Fiction, but it has received GREAT reviews)

I've linked each book to their site on Amazon.com, but that is not the only place they're available. So if you don't have a Kindle, make sure you look elsewhere-you will find the books I promise. :)

Unfortunately I can't think of anymore right now. BUT you should definitely check out ALL of these books, they're fantastically fabulously awesome!!

I want to take a second to mention a couple things:

I'm signed up for Alex's...

Four firsts-movie, song/band, book, person. Go check it out - you can sign up here.

Also I wanted to say hello and thanks to my new followers. I know some people are taking a complete break from blogs on Sundays. BUT if any of you read this, I really appreciate you following me :)

One last announcement, and I will try to announce this at another time...Next month I am planning my first giveaway. I've never had one and am not sure what all exactly I'm going to giveaway (though I have a few things in mind) or even what sort of rules I'm going to set. I just wanted to get it out there that very soon I will have a contest, so stay tuned ;)

And that's all.

Happy Sunday :)

Silence

Suddenly Silence Seems So Simple

Keeping Silent

I wasn't sure how I would wrap this week up, since it didn't turn out like my typical weeks. Then I decided, I would wrap up my week. It's still the same, it's still the end of the week. Things that happened this week, are just a little different than usual.

As some of you know, I wound up in the hospital. It's funny, my kids are wild, but I would have totally preferred spending the days with their madness instead of in a hospital or lying around resting because that's all I could really do.

When I was diagnosed with Lupus, I was 21 and it came with the bombshell that my oldest daughter and I should have died during her birth. It was news that was hard to handle (needless to say), but then it came with a positive(at least I thought so at the time).

My Rheumatologist told me that my Lupus was mild and there was a really good chance that (other than when I'm pregnant) I won't experience severe symptoms. He said I should be fine and that aside from some arthritis, fatigue and headaches, I should grow old and die from age. Apparently (and unfortunately), he was wrong. Granted, it was inflammation (which is what arthritis is) that caused my problems this week, but still-it was dangerous inflammation and a little worrisome.

I don't talk much about having Lupus, I don't like the looks I've gotten from people when they find out...I don't like being pitied. I don't like people thinking I'm fragile. I'm not. Lupus doesn't run my life. I found out though, that sometimes you need to talk about it. Sometimes people need to know more, hell, I needed to know more. I had no idea that it was possible that my chest pain was due to my Lupus.

My kids were sad that I was in the hospital and they asked me to not go back. I can't promise them that, but I can skate around the subject. And that's what I did. They're too young to really understand Lupus, so with them, I will continue to keep silent. I won't talk about it with them and I won't allow them to have anything to worry about when it comes to my health.

A Moment of Silence

April 19, 2012 marked the 17 year anniversary of the Oklahoma City Bombing. That SO SAD day when a couple of idiots decided to bomb the federal building in downtown OKC-resulting in 168 deaths. Nineteen of which were children under the age of six. Take a moment of silence for those 168 lives lost, please-they deserve it.

I've Been Silent...

This week, and I apologize. With all the Lupus stuff happening, I've had a hard time getting to others blogs this week. I will do better next week though.

Sorry for the moments of Seriousness in this post and Sorry it was a bit long. But that's my week all wrapped up.

Happy Saturday :)

Questionable TAG! - Matthew MacNish

Quality Queries Question Quintessentially

This TAG is exciting for me, I don't know why exactly-other than I enjoy his blog and was excited when I stumbled upon it. Oh and I was excited that he agreed to be one of my TAG victims participants.

Many of you know Matthew (Matt) MacNish from his wonderful blog, The Quintessentially Questionable Query Experiment. I don't know him personally, but I found his blog a few months back and have been following ever since. He's awesome :D You can read some of his short stories, here. You can also find him on Twitter and Facebook. If you haven't visited his blog, go now...well, after you read this post. :)

1. When did you start writing?
I’ve always enjoyed writing, well, at least ever since I learned how, but I did not really start pursuing writing as a career until about 4 years ago.

2. What made you want to write?
I wanted to tell stories. To make people enjoy reading a story as much as I did.

3. When did you decide you wanted to write to be published? (As opposed to writing just to write)
See above. But to give more detail, I always kind of wanted to write a novel, but actually gave up on writing for over a decade in my twenties, because life just got in the way. Then, I had a great idea for a novel, one that finally felt worth dedicating my time to, and I just got started.

4. What genre(s) do you write?
Everything. The only novels I’ve written would all be sold as YA (Young Adult) but that’s not really a label I believe in. My short fiction has been published as Fantasy, Literary, Horror, and pretty much everything.

5. Why that(those) genre(s)?
Well, I just write the stories that come to me, but when I write novels (or manuscripts intended to become novels) I write about young people, because that was when everything exciting happened to me in my life – when I was young.

6. Do you have any particular ritual when you write? (A specific way things are done during the process)
Not anymore. I used to have to be at my desk, at work, in the early morning hours. But then I got promoted a few times, and I no longer have that freedom. Now I write wherever and whenever I can.

7. Do you use an outline, or do you just start writing?
Unless it’s for something very short, I can’t even begin writing if I don’t have at least a loose outline telling me where I’m going.

8. Is there something you MUST have when you're writing? (Aside from the typical writer tools-computer, pen, paper, etc)
I generally prefer a glass of nice Highland Single Malt Scotch, and a beer, but neither is required.

9. Do you write out your story on paper and then transfer to a computer, or straight to the computer?
Lord no. My handwriting is illegible.

10. How many books/short stories have you written? (Published or not, even those you wrote and then thought-what the hell?)
Two novels, and countless short fiction. You can find the short fiction that has been published, on (this page), on my blog.

11. Is there, or has there been, anyone in your life (real or online) who thought you being a writer is/was just another hobby? Or that you are/were wasting your time as a writer?
No, because I don’t tell anyone about it who actually knows me.

12. Do you do Social Media sites? If so, which ones? If not, why don't you?
Yes, I have the blog, and I’m on Facebook, Twitter, and Google +.

13. Any advice for writers that makes you cringe every time you hear it? (I know there is some cringe-worthy advice still worth following, so only advice you don't follow.)
Show don’t tell. I know what people really mean, and I get it, but most rules are just guidelines. Just write a great story, and realize it will have to include some telling.

14. Where did you come up with your blog title: The Quintessentially Questionable Query Experiment?
The QQQE is an alliterative play on the fact that my blog started as a place where I would share examples of the query mistakes I made in the beginning, in the hopes that others could learn from them.

15. What goes on at your uniquely named blog?
Lots of things. Mostly it's my own random thoughts on life, style, reading, writing, books, films, music, and entertainment, but there's a good helping of advice when it comes to getting published. Like query critiques, and examples of successful queries.

16. What is the longest book you've read?
I've read War and Peace, but if you research Tolkien, you'll find that he intended The Lord of the Rings to be a single book, originally, and since he's my all time favorite author, I count LOTR.

17. A favorite quote that starts with a Q?
No idea. Are there any? Here's one I like, but I had to look it up: Question with boldness even the existence of a god; because, if there be one, he must more approve of the homage of reason than that of blindfolded fear. - Thomas Jefferson

18. What do you do when you aren't writing?
I have a day job. I’m a dad. I collect vinyl. I walk my dog.

19. Any words of wisdom for anyone who is thinking of becoming a writer, or just something you think all writers should know?
Read, write, and critique. Read everything you can get your hands on, write whatever you feel like writing, and realize that you learn more about the craft by giving others feedback than anything else.

Pick Up

(For anyone who visited yesterday...I'm doing better. They released me from the hospital last night. The decided diagnosis was inflammation around my heart and in my chest caused by a flare up of my Lupus. Thanks for the well wishes :) )

Passionate People Perform Pleasingly

This to do is so much fun to do, right?

Pick Up

This is also known as cleaning or straightening or housework. Which means I need not explain, we all know of this dreaded word. At least it's dreaded for me. With a five and four year old that run crazy through the house no matter what I say, it makes cleaning a very constant to do. I'm not sure I ever get to really mark it off.

I do find there are a few things that make it easier. Picking up in the mornings or in the evenings, or both. Make it fun-this is actually easy if you have little ones. Put on some music and dance around as you pick up stuff. Or turn it into a game. If you have a lot to pick up, make a mini to do that has things that need picked up. I know that may not sound helpful, but it is.

Just figure out what works best for you, and get it done.

Happy Picking Up :)

(Sorry about the late post)

Oh No

I don't have a clever sentence for you all. I don't have a real O post. I can't guarantee that I will have a P post for your tomorrow. I got admitted into the hospital so I will have to go AWOL from the challenge until things improve.

Happy O-day

Nuke

Nuking's Not Necessary

Still a To Do List post. Are some of you wondering? Trying to figure out what we're going to blow up?

This is when you take your To Do List and go outside and bomb it. F-it. No one likes having stuff to do all the time, right?

Okay, not really. Sorry to disappoint anyone who thought something awesome would come from this word.

Nuke

Originally this would be the part on the to do where we talk about cooking. Since I needed it to coincide with N, I made it Nuke. Ya know, like when you cook something in the microwave? Of course, doing that is not cooking. But Nuking something in the microwave is considered 'cooking' sometimes, so I used it as my word in place of cook.

We all have those days when it's been such a long day and your tired. Who wants to cook anything when your tired? Not me. But I have kids and therefore I have to cook all the time. There are some nights when I throw something easy in the microwave, but I prefer to eat for real food. I guess, homemade food is more what I mean.

This is another one of those that doesn't have a simple solution. Find a motivator and use it, whatever will get it done for you. If you have a spouse you need to feed, use that. If you have kids, use them. Find something that makes you say, okay, I have to feed them so I have to cook. Then, just do it. Don't think about how much you don't want to do it or how tired you are. Just get in the kitchen and get it done.

Enlightening, right? Sure it was. :)

Happy Nuking :D

Review: The Hunger Games

3 stars to The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins.

I talked a little bit about the book (here) on my week wrapped up. The book was hard getting into for me. I am a reader who doesn't care for details, and this book is FULL of them. After I got to about Chapter 6-I started getting into the story and by the time I finished, I was ready for book 2. For some that would make the star rating higher, but the fact that I skimmed SO much of the book, I can only give it 3. I do recommend it though.

Since I skimmed a lot and only have the story to talk about, my review will be full of spoilers. Go ahead and click on read more if you want the full review...

Musings

Musings Make Motivational Moments

Since I had some random thoughts this week, I figure I'll end the week with a few M ones.

Musings

Michael Myers: I hear this name and think of the killer from Halloween. However, there are real people named this. Who could name their kid after a murderer (even a fictional one), because I couldn't. I mean, who says, 'I'm going to call you...Michael. Yes, Michael Myers. What a perfect name for my sweet angel.' Yep, that's not weird at all.

Milkmen: What happened to them? I know some places actually still have them, or they have been brought back---Do you have milkmen in your area?

Mario: Why is he the star? What's wrong with Luigi? I mean, Mario is okay and all, but Luigi has always been my favorite. And in all actuality, once Yoshi came on the scene, he won me over. I love my original Mario Bros, but the later game variations with Yoshi were fun.

Money: I'm one of those people who hate money. Sounds strange? Oh well. I hate how 'important' money is. I hate that we have to have money to live. I hate that the amount of money one has, determines their worth. It's ridiculous. I know money is important because that's the way of life, but I hate that life has to be that way.

Mom: This is such a strong and important word. Moms do so much and put up with so much. Take a moment to appreciate a mom in your life, they're VIPs.

Moist: Perhaps it's the books I read, or the gutter my mind likes to frequent...I don't know why this word popped into my mind.

Moving on...

MS: Funny story here...I was talking about my MS and how it was really starting to irritate me and how frustrating revisions were. The person I was talking to asks me why I felt the need to discuss my monthly woman thing with them. Yeah, awkward moment, for them. After I laughed at them, why would I be talking about that? And what the hell would I mean if I was talking about that and said revisions of my MS (I'm not sure how to revise that other thing )? Hello non-writers out there who don't know (or even new ones who may not know) MS=Manuscript. So, the person was a little embarrassed but we both ended up with a good laugh in the end.

Much: As in this post has too much going on.

Many: As in this post has too many words. OR as in how do people end up with too many words in their MS? Mine has too few, I've been having to work very hard at adding more. I'm still only just over 62k, and being that it's a Paranormal Romance, that puts me at least 18k short.

Okay, I'm done.

Happy Musing :)

Legends

Yes, this is keeping with my Fantasy/Paranormal/Supernatural/etc theme. I figure since it's Friday the 13th, talking about legends fits.

Legends Lift Listeners Like Laden Lies

Right, so...

Legends

There are soooooooo many of them, right? But I'm just going to talk about a few, at random of course because that seems to be how it works this week. :)

Leprechauns: I picked this first one because it's Irish and an L. In Irish folklore the Leprechaun is a fairy. He likes to make shoes and to be mischievous. If you catch one, he'll grant you three wishes in exchange for his release. On a funny note, aside from Irish lore...the movies are ridiculously stupid enough to damn near be comedic. I mean, really what was dude thinking when he wrote that script-or maybe it's more like what was he on?

Lir: As in the Children of Lir. So I don't know how many people know this one, to sum it up for those who don't...Lir had babies with his wife and then his wife died so he married her sister. The sister didn't like the kids so she turned them all into swans. There are variations, but the way I know it goes: they spent a total of 900 years in a few different places and then a kind witch turned them back to human. Problem is, humans don't live to be 900 years old, so they withered and died. What do I get out of that story? Don't marry your sister-in-law...just saying.

Loch Ness: Oh don't we all love the legend of the scary *insert which of the thousands of descriptions you prefer* monster that can be found in Loch Ness located in the Scottish Highlands. Since the 1930s(and some say even before then) there have been rumors of this monster and pictures that 'prove' its existence. Here's a famous pic for everyone to show you how real it is...

(EDIT: If you'd like to see the photo, click here.)

...spooky right? Yeah, sure it is. There are people who say it's without a doubt a hoax and there are people who hold it to be the best proof of the monster. I have to say, I'm not sure I believe Nessie is real, but I don't know how comfortable I'd be on a boat out on Loch Ness.

Local Legends-here are two from Oklahoma

Bulldog Man: Now this legend is of old and has been 'tainted' throughout the years. In Sand Springs, Oklahoma there is a road called The Old North Road and it is narrow and winding and can be scary dangerous at night-hell sometimes at day too. In goes through Sand Springs into Tulsa. In the 1920 on a bend of said road, there was an amusement park. A very poor family with too many children and 'accidentally' left a son behind. The son lived in the park eating discarded food and sleeping in various places in the park. Two years later the park closed and he wandered the woods. He came upon the Brick Factory and the workers took him in. One night a pile of hot bricks fell on him and disfigured his face making him look like a bulldog. Years later the factory closed and the boy stayed there guarding 'his territory', shooting at anything/one who came near him. When I was younger the thing was-go to Old North Road, stop your car, flash your headlights three times and wait for him to come 'get you'. Rumors went around of people who encountered the Bulldog Man, but I never did. I traveled the road a lot and I even did the flashing lights and stopping thing, but he never came for me. It's still a fun legend regardless.

Gilcrease Museum: This is a 'haunted' museum in Tulsa, Oklahoma. It's been said that the man who established the museum, Thomas Gilcrease, haunts the grounds. It has also been said that you can hear children playing, a woman singing and men arguing. But there are tons of 'sightings' of Thomas Gilcrease. I'm not a skeptic, and I wouldn't be shocked if his spirit truly does still roam the museum at night. I've never gone there to see it for myself though.

So, this is a long post, sorry about that. But there were so many legends I wanted to talk about. I actually had to make myself stop when I did. Sorry I'm late, I had the post scheduled but I forgot to go back in and finish editing and click 'publish'.

So Happy Legending-yeah that's a word, sure. :)

Keeping Distant, Kit-Kats, and other random 'K's

Knowledge Kneaded Knocks Karma

So I said I wasn't going to break my schedule, but I am. Today should have been a TAG! but it didn't work out how I wanted. So-here's a poem and some more randomness. :)

Keeping Distant

She admires him
Only because he's 'great'
'Perfect'
Enticing in every way

Tears form in her eyes
Resentment in her mind
Anytime she thinks of the consequence
Of everything she likes

Keeps hesitating
To really open up
Restrains her every impulse
Inside of what she loves

Staying right with him
Each step of the way
Yet shielding her heart
Protecting it from break.

(That was one from the archives.)

And on to the randomness...

Kit-Kat: I really like this candy, but I despise the commercials for them. They irk me every time.

Kat Williams: I don't know exactly what it is, but I find him to be hilarious.

King: As in Stephen King. One of the most insanely awesome insane writers ever. There are a few of his books that I can't stand, but for the most part I love him.

Krueger: My dad is the person who got me into horror movies (my mom got me into horror books), yep awesome parents I have-and I actually mean that. I was 2 when I first sat down with my dad and watched Nightmare On Elm Street. I had nightmares for a long time, but when the second one came out, did I pass? Nope. Dad and I sat on the couch and watched that one too. And with each new one that came out, the cycle continued.
On the same K...one year(I was around 11 or so) at the fair there was a haunted house that you could walk through. It had 'wax' figures of people/creatures from scary movies. (Chuckie, Jason, Leatherface and yep...Krueger.) So a friend of mine and I were walking through and we got to Freddy. My friend starts talking big shit about how lame Freddy was and whatnot. We're all laughing it up and then-BAM!-Freddy jumps up, over the rope, and starts chasing us. Yeah...some of the figures were real people in costume. Even though I knew the person wasn't really Freddy, it scared the crap out of me. But it was one hell of an adrenaline rush.

King Koopa: Now a few Tuesdays back I talked about classic video games. And Mario is definitely a classic. For me, Koopa is one of the best antagonists in a video game ever.

And that concludes my random thoughts for today. Although I'm sure it bugs me more than my readers, next week I will definitely be back on schedule. In fact...I have a pretty awesome TAG! already set up. ;)

Happy K-day :)

Job

Just Jump Jobs...Joke

Okay, that sentence was totally not brilliant, but oh well. I forgot about J, so I'm writing this at midnight and I'm tired.

Anyway...

Job

I'm a self-employed mom and writer. I run errands and grocery shop for people who pay me to do it. BTW-being a mom is defintely a job, for anyone who doesn't already know that. :)

I know many of my followers have actual jobs, pretty much every adult I know (except my sister) has a 'real' job that they go to every day and bust their asses. Kudos to those of you who work, blog, read blogs, comment on blogs, write stories, have families....wow, that list goes on and on. There are so many people who do so much and accomplish everything amazingly.

So, there are no tips for getting this off the to do. Ah, I know-you all thought there was some magical way to make going to work every day easier right? Yeah, not right. This is one of those to dos (like the writer ones) that my solution is just do it. Just get up and go to work, bust your ass and come home to do whatever you find more enjoyable. Not saying that you don't enjoy your job, but every one has days when they just don't want to go to work.

Lol, I feel like this post really sucks.

Here's some random thoughts to make up for it :)

Just: Take a moment next time your in front of your MS and do a find and replace. If you have this word in your story five hundred thousand times-take it out. Though I know it's a necessary word sometimes, most of the time you can take it out.

Jumping Jacks: Enlighten me please. Who is Jack and why is there an excercise named after him?

Jason: Maybe I'm the only one, but every time I hear/meet someone with this name I automatically think of Friday the Thirteenth and I can't not picture Jason Voorhees when I talk to/about that person. Sorry anyone named Jason : /

John Carpenter: For me, that's nuff said. Perhaps not for everyone else. But I myself find this man to be awesome! Oh and for anyone who doesn't know who I'm talking about-he's a director, producer, writer and actor (on occasion).

Journey & John Mellencamp: Some J music I like

Happy J-day :)

Intrigue

Input Intrigue, It's Imperative

Influence the people around you, those that buy your books or read you blog.
Notice that they're coming to you, curiously hoping for something interesting to read.
Take the time to create something fun.
Remember to write what you like, but do it in a way that won't bore your online friends.
It's important to realize and keep in mind what brings you to their attention.
Give and be generous, courteous-write words that make them excited to come back for more another day.
Use your personality, resources, knowledge.
Especially make sure to remember that your online friends are there for you, be there for them by giving them something worth their time.

People read our books and our blogs, they follow us and are loyal. Our online friends are there for us, so make sure to give them something that keeps them interested-if not, what's going to keep them coming back? What will keep them loyal?

Happy Intriguing :)

Homework

Yep, it's another to do. I know there will be some of you who this doesn't relate to, but I also know there are many who have kids or go to school themselves (or both).

Homework Honestly Hasn't Happened Happily Here

Homework

Whether it's homework for you, your kids, or both-homework can be a challenge to knock off of the to do. Even my five year old hates doing homework. Some things that help get it done.

Homework is best tackled right after school (maybe right after school, after snack-I know my kids are starving when they get home), when there hasn't been time to get out of school-mode and into I'm-at-home-and-want-to-do-anything-that-doesn't-involve-school-mode. Plus, if you do homework right when you get home, it's done and out of the way and you get the remainder of the evening to do whatever.

Another thing that works is finding ways to make it fun. Find something around the house to incorporate into the homework process.

Finally, if you have kids (or even nieces or nephews that your helping do homework), make sure you at least appear to be enjoying the homework. If kids see adults looking like they despise doing the work, they will despise it too. I have always been that kid who thinks homework is fun all the time, but I know there are a lot of people who don't think so.

BTW-finding ways to make it fun AND tackling homework immediately is directed at the adults who are in school as well. It's easy to get caught up in the relief that you're at home and done with your school day, but your 'home time' is much more relaxing if your 'homework time' is out of the way.

Happy, um-Homeworking? :)

Happy Easter!

Normally today would be a Something Sunday post, but I can't do that. I know I have followers of various beliefs and whatnot, so forgive me if you don't like to read the religious stuff.

I've said it before, but for anyone new-I'm Episcopal and I 100% believe in the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. I say this because...

Today is Jesus' day, who am I to take away from that by posting a recommendation to someone's site, or an awesome book, or someone else other than Jesus? I just can't do that.

Since I am not that religious person who thinks everyone who isn't religious (or even just people who aren't MY religion), should be-I can't push my beliefs on anyone, that's just not who I am. Therefore, I'm not 'recommending' that you celebrate Easter as a religious day. But, it is a religious day for me, and that is why I'm not posting a normal Something Sunday.

BTW-it's not strictly religious for us. We talk about what Easter means in terms of the religious aspect. But we also have an Easter dinner, my kids hunt eggs and they get candy from the Easter Bunny. So, I'm not saying that we only focus on the religious side of it, just that I acknowledge it is a religious holiday.

Anyway, I hope everyone has an awesome day, regardless of how you celebrate.

Happy Easter! :)

Going, Going, Gone

For a nice change, this week was not so crazy. Kids are still a bit wild...okay, a lot wild, BUT the week was still pretty goo overall.

Give Generously, Gain Genuine Groups.

Going

Intersession is over and my daughters are excited to be back at school. Mommy is too! I've had time to get the house back in order, for the most part. I've gotten to visit a ton of awesome blogs that are participating in the A to Z Challenge. And I've made progress in my writing/editing.

Going

My revisions are running so much smoother this week. I've managed to revise six chapters. Compared to the one or two a week, that's pretty darn good. Plus, I've been working on my WIP and the ideas just keep coming.

Gone

Lent has come to an end. Tomorrow is Easter and while it took the entire forty days, I've (almost) overcome my procrastination. Since I planned on giving up procrastination for Lent, it's a little sad that it took the entire time to finally accomplish that task, but I'm happy I did it-better late than never, right?

Overall this week was a pretty good start to April. Looking forward to another exciting week next week.

Happy Saturday :)

That's my week all wrapped up. How was your week? Did you accomplish anything you've been hoping to get done? Did you find a ton of awesome people? Are you participating in the challenge? (If not, hopefully next year because it's awesome-but you can still go here and check out the links to everyone who is participating and check out their blogs.)

Fantasy

(Since I would normally leave my Friday open to give more light to my awesome Thursday TAG!-if you haven't, please check out my Q&A with the Fabulous-E.M. Labonte.)

My Friday semi-theme is going to be about a genre I enjoy. I read every genre, but Fantasy is my absolute favorite. I know that many people think of 'High Fantasy' or 'Epic' novels in association with this genre, but it's more than that. Dystopian, Paranormal and Urban, even Sci-Fi (in some aspects) are all capable of being in this category. For me. when I think Fantasy I think anything fantastical and magical, anything that isn't really real. Faeries, vampires, weres and shifters, angels, demons, dragons, witches, wizards, elves and so many more. Reading is imaginative, so why not read about something that takes you to a different reality?

Fantasy: Fantastically Fun Fiction

Find yourself on a journey into a world that doesn't exist.
And take your mind to a place where the impossible is really possible.
Normal is people doing things that can't be real.
The ideas are true as you go page by page.
Animals are humans and no one is what they seem.
Supernatural things are more natural than they are 'supposed' to be.
You find yourself somewhere that is full of wonder and adventure.

Happy Fantasizing ;)

How about you? Do you like to read about the paranormal/supernatural/magical? Why do you or why don't you? What's your favorite genre?

E.M. LaBonte

(Thursday is TAG! on my blog. I do a Q&A with someone. It is still an E, so I'm sticking to the challenge :)
I usually post at 4:30AM Central time, but I apparently forgot to write my post for today. So, my sentence is in light of my forgetfulness :)

Even Experts Experience Errors ;)

Today's TAG! is E.M. LaBonte a fellow writer I met on AgentQueryConnect. You can find her on her blog, on ACQ, and she tweets. She's also a member of the blog ring of power.

1. When did you start writing?
I was born with a pencil in my hand reaching for a pad of paper... um no.  I started writing when my mean English teacher in the 4th grade made us write a short story to test our grammar.

2. What made you want to write?
I loved coming up with a new idea, and I received praise from my mother and the teachers for the first story and beyond.  I failed the grammar part though. I never did get the hang of that. : (  I enjoyed the experience of coming up with the story as I wrote it. The bonus was making my teacher smile. (Even though I hated her.) So I was hooked. I've been doing it ever since.  I have a folder full of short stories, and incomplete -really bad first drafts- of novels.

3. When did you decide you wanted to write to be published? (As opposed to writing just to write)
I had an epiphany. I had that moment, where I was unhappy with where I worked, but didn't know what else I wanted to do.  That moment where I realized there was one thing that I've always enjoyed doing, and would do it to see the enjoyment of others reading my stories.  I wanted to share what was in my head, and see if that could be my career.

4. What genre(s) do you write?
Speculative Fiction. I originally started writing just high fantasy alone, but have since spread out to a bit of Dystopian SciFi.

5. Why that(those) genre(s)?
I started with high fantasy because that was what I read in the beginning. I mixed things up a bit when I had an idea that I couldn't get out of my head.  Found out I can branch out.  I'm excited about it.  Perhaps I'll be able to branch out even more in the future.

6. Do you have any particular ritual when you write? (A specific way things are done during the process)
Eat, make sure the kids have eaten in the morning. Then I settle down at the computer or pen and paper, depending on which draft I'm working on. Not much to it really.

7. Do you use an outline, or do you just start writing?
I have a basic idea of how my book starts and how it ends.  The rest of it is told to me while I'm writing.  I end up being mostly a pantser, but I do end up planning while I'm writing.

8. Is there something you MUST have when you're writing? (Aside from the typical writer tools-computer, pen, paper, etc)
A cup of coffee or water, ready and waiting. Wait, does that count as one of the typical writer tools.  Hmmm. ;)

9. Do you write out your story on paper and then transfer to a computer, or straight to the computer?
I always like to write the story out.  There is something to be said of the traditional, no backspace key, writing.  It helps me move forward without worrying about editing till I'm done.  It also helps me when I transfer to do a rewrite when I'm typing it onto computer.  No cut and paste.  Keeps me honest and focused.

10. How many books/short stories have you written? (Published or not, even those you wrote and then thought-what the hell?)
I've gotten a bunch of short stories written and put away.  I don't remember how many though, never thought to count them.  I've been writing about one a week on my blog. As far as hope-to-be novels, I have three so far in the works.  Second Nature is on it's 8th draft, the sequel Cold Magic his halfway done it's first draft, and the new Dystopian has started taking shape.  I only have a few chapters written on that one so far, but I'm liking the idea.

11. Is there, or has there been, anyone in your life (real or online) who thought you being a writer is/was just another hobby? Or that you are/were wasting your time as a writer?
My siblings and mom, growing up.  We all have our artistic talents, I'm the only one who cant draw, so I built my pictures with words.  They thought, and probably still think that my writing wont go anywhere, cause of my dyslexia, which hinders my spelling and my sub-par grammar.  I know I still have a lot to learn, and relearn, and I'm willing to push through my own short comings to make my dream happen.  To see my book, in all its glory, read by my extended friends.

12. Do you do Social Media sites? If so, which ones? If not, why don't you?
Yes, I'm over here and over there.  LOL To start off with, I joined AQC about 9 months ago, and have learned so much from them.  I've gained critique partners and friends.
I also have a Author's page on FaceBook http://www.facebook.com/E.M.LaBonte1, a blog http://emlabonte.blogspot.com/, I'm on Linkin http://www.linkedin.com/pub/e-m-labonte/3a/620/689, Google+ https://plus.google.com/106248320069260629559 and a Twitter https://twitter.com/#!/Nemune2 account.  Yeah, I'm all over the place.  I've also got others, but I'm rarely on them.

13. Any advice for writers that makes you cringe every time you hear it? (I know there is some cringe-worthy advice still worth following, so only advice you don't follow.)
Write every day.  I know as a writer it's good to write as much as you can, but I also know (from experience) that writing every day can burn the mind out.  There are days when it's good to just walk away.  Get out of the house, away from the pen, paper, and computer and just do something, enjoy life. LIVE It's not all about words, it's about the emotions those words inspire, you need to feel them before you can write them. IMHO

14. Why do you write about dragons?
I'm not really sure, except that I've always had a fascination with the noble dragons of the East in the bodies of the ones in Europe.  I like the combo of the two.  I think the dragons with the snarling evil faces just look silly.

15. What are your dragons like?
Mostly like humans in a giant lizard body.  LOL but really they do have most of the emotions and attitudes of the human race, except they are more feral and their culture is slightly primitive. Picture a stubborn person living over 500 - 1000 years, things wont change much, they wont let it. Yup that's my dragons.

16. If your dragons were real, would you own one?
Um, wouldn't that be slavery? I'd be friends with them, but if they were real, I don't think I would have enough power to bend them to my will, unless I was one too. :)

17. What is the Blog Ring Of Power?
The Blog Ring of Power was put together by Terri Bruce in hopes to give and gain exposure to published authors.  We set up a interview that lasts 5 days over 5 blogs. It's been a great success and the interviews keep coming.  Eventually we are planning contests and other blog fun stuff. It's so great, because we end up meeting so many interesting and wonderful people and they have been keeping in touch with us through out.

18. With a job outside of writing and three kids, do you find it difficult to find a balance between non writer and writer life?
OH yeah! I've only been back to work for 2 weeks, so it's been a bit of a struggle to balance everything.  I'm starting to get back in the swing of things. Right before leaving for work and during breaks, I get some words in. Funny thing is it has been easier to create.  After 2 years being a stay at home mom, I find that even though my time is now limited, I am more focused.  I have found my writing is getting much more inspired and better all around. At least I think so, I'll find out if I'm being a bit biased when my crit partner takes a look.

19. What do you do when you aren't writing?
Spending time with my crazy but amazing family.  Enjoying what life has to offer with those I love most. Oh yeah and working too, gotta earn a living some how.

20. Any words of wisdom for anyone who is thinking of becoming a writer, or just something you think all writers should know?
To any writers out there, find a writers group, if you don't already have one.  Ask the stupid questions, learn EVERYTHING you can and in the meantime, write, write and write some more. You'll be amazed how much you can grow with like minds rooting for you.  Save your first draft, so when everything is said and done, you can see the proof that comes with a support group.

Date

(Sticking with my schedule, this is still a To Do List post)

Delightful Dates Don't Dare Disappoint

Date

This may sound like an odd To Do, but really-it's necessary. We don't want to go crazy as we go about our day to day, always busy and never taking time to enjoy other's company. Dating can mean you and your significant other taking time to go to a movie or dinner, just the two of you. It can mean you and a friend (or group of friends) going out to a bar and having a couple drinks. It can even mean you and your significant other having a night in, cuddled up on the couch playing video games if that's something you enjoy.

The point is, we have to have date nights at some point or we'll become lonely hobbits/homebodys bordering a very thin line between sanity and a padded room. Just saying. And while it may be hard to find time for a date night, it's necessary, so make the time. The best thing to do? Pick a day (depending on your schedule, this can be once a week or once a month, but no less than once a month), and stick with it. If you need motivation, just picture yourself alone, in a robe, scruffy hair-day after day. We need interaction, so interact (outside of your online friends, no matter how wonderful they may be-yes, mine are Definitely wonderful :D <3  )

Happy Dating :)

Care

Anyone who has been following my blog knows that today is supposed to be Thoughtful Tuesday. I would normally post a poem or some random thoughts. I'm changing it up just a bit for the A-to-Z. This is another semi-theme that came to mind when I was trying to decide on a poem to post. I couldn't pick, so instead-each Tuesday will be a post about being thankful for our online friends because I am very thankful for mine!

Caring Creates Character

Connect with your followers, they are following you for a reason.
Appreciate that they take the time to think of you, to read your blog (or book(s) because this applies to writers too)
Recommend them. Their blogs or books or both. Their Twitter and Facebook page. Mention them in a tweet or a link on your blog.
Enjoy the fact that you have followers and interact with them as much as possible.

Take the time to care about your followers, your online friends. A simple thanks is all it takes. They care enough to pay attention to what you have to say, so you should care enough to show them you appreciate what they have to say.

Happy Caring :)

Bedtime

This is still part of the to do list, I just didn't include to do list in the post title because today is B on the Challenge.

Beat Bedtime Blues By Being Better

Bedtime

I know some people may think this is an odd topic for a to do list. It's not. Writers and non writers alike have trouble stopping what they're doing and going to bed. It's not always easy to get to bed at a decent time. I will admit I suck at it. Most of my nights go on until at least 2AM and many times well after that. I can't stop writing/critiquing/revising/etc. It's a harder feat when you have kids.

Which is something else that this goes with. Getting kids to bed on time. That's almost as hard as getting ourselves there. Kids want to stay up. They want to play, or watch TV or if they're like mine-they're just plain nosy. My oldest is always complaining about going to bed because she's afraid she'll miss out on something exciting.

No matter if you need to get only yourself, or both you and little ones-decent bedtime is hard to accomplish. I've found that no matter what I try, I can't get to bed early. There are too many things I have/want to get done and I can't do it until my kids are in bed. Plus, I'm a night owl, always have been. I function better in the late hours of the night-or VERY early hours of the morning. Either way, I can't make myself get to bed early.

Things to try...If you're one of those people who can tell yourself you're going to do something, and it actually works, then do that. Pick a time you would like to go to bed-do it in advance so it's on your mind-and then that's when you'll stop whatever you're doing and go to bed. Motivate yourself with figuring. Figure how many hours you have until you need to be up the next day. Then motivate yourself with that. You want to get some sleep, so decide how much you need to really function. No one wants to be a grumpy Gus.

If you have little kids that make bedtime a chore...find something that helps them relax. There are several different things we do over here. Some nights it's an herbal tea (decaf btw) My kids love it, they love that they have their own tea, and it's got natural herbs that help them to relax. Win-win. Something else is music-something without words and with smooth sounds is what helps mine. Reading is another excellent way to get the kids to wind down. For mine, it's the Bible. Any children's books just get them riled up. Finally, a massage. Yep, I give my little ones massages, have since they were infants. It came highly recommended by several health professionals and also two different parenting classes i took. My daughters absolutely love it. I usually just gently rub their backs and they get sleepy within a minute or two. Kids stress out too, ya know.

So, yeah this was a bit longer than intended but, there ya go.

Happy Sleeping :)

An Awesome Author

Today is day one of the April A to Z Blog Challenge. I told everyone a couple weeks ago I would be doing something with each letter. Since I have to keep with my schedule because, well, I just do-I'm adding a little sentence to the beginning of each post. Here's the first:

An Awesome Author Acts Accordingly.

To kick off day one, letter A, I am going to give a shout out to Alex J Cavanaugh. For anyone who usually follows my blog, this is still a Something Sunday post, just All about Alex-so I'm still sticking to the challenge.

Alex is an author of Sci-Fi. His first book CassaStar was released in October 2010 and the sequel, CassaFire came out February this year. Both books have received great reviews and though I haven't gotten a chance to read them-they're both on my TBR and I can't wait.

You can find him on Twitter @AlexJCavanaugh and his blog, which I linked to at the beginning of this post. In addition he is a co-host for this A-Z Challenge AND a Ninja-a very AWESOME ninja.

He interacts with the blogs he follows and with the people who follow him. He's an overall nice, funny, genuine guy who is worth following, mentioning, and you should definitely check his books out.
