Happy 2015! :D

Okay, here we are, it's a new year, it's a better year, things are going to happen, feel the positive energy...

No really, here's the deal. I've got things I need to do and I really need to get my crap together this year. It's going to happen. I'm going to get shit rolling.

And here's what's happening:

  • Figure direction of blog
  • Get a blog schedule going
  • Get a chore list going for kids(and make them follow it)(also, stick to it)
  • Catch up on all 9 books checked out from the library (as of 1/1/15)
  • Make a list of all series' and get caught up on that reading
  • Finish two first drafts
  • Edit two MSs
  • Figure out what my publishing goal is and get going on that
  • Get house organized better
  • Get bedroom/storage room/attic decluttered
  •  Participate in and complete NaNoWriMo

That extra dot is because I know I have more and I'm planning to add to that list as I think of things I need to do this year. This year is going to be better, I'm going to make it better. I messed up last year and I'm not going that route again. I hate where I ended the year and I don't want that again.

How about you. Any resolutions? Massive or tiny to-do lists? Did you accomplish things in 2014 that you were hoping to? Let me know in the comments. Happy New Year! Have a great Thursday. (See you tomorrow for another post. I know, I know, my blog is probably going to crash from all this posting. :P )

Volunteer

Very sorry, I have no sentence today. I'm still working on getting used to my meds, I'm good to have coherent blog posts :p

Volunteer

Okay, so I know not everyone volunteers. And to be honest when this came to mind I was thinking of myself. I volunteer (or at least try to) as often as possible at my kids schools. I like to be involved and volunteering gives me that opportunity. BUT I also think volunteering comes in many ways. Writers volunteer to critique for other writers, or any one volunteers to be beta readers. OR even volunteering to read a book and do a review of it. Volunteering to guest blog or host a guest on your blog. Anything/service your offering without wanting anything in return (other than satisfaction that you did something nice).

This to do isn't necessarily daily, weekly, or even monthly-but it should be on your list. Volunteering is good for the soul. Find time somewhere in your schedule to do something to help someone out, just because.

I have a great TAG! tomorrow, please come by and check it out.

Also, I announced on Sunday that I will have a contest soon. I think I will have a couple-maybe, I haven't decided for sure, but I am pretty sure. I know at least one book I will be giving away and it's a fabulous read. Stay tuned in May :)

One more thing, and it's AWESOME! Alex J Cavanaugh is having a contest!!! It's an amazing giveaway for the winner's school or library of choice. Now, go check it out! :D

Happy Volunteering :)

Time

Time Tends To Take Thinking

Time

This is a funny to do, but it's the most important. Every day, with all we have going on, it's hard to just find time. Time for us, time to relax and just do something we enjoy or do nothing at all. This is the hardest thing for me to mark off. I'm not good with finding time just for myself.

That also means I don't have a good way to help anyone else mark it off the list. So why am I posting about it if I can't even help? Because I want to make sure everyone does have it on their list. It's as important for our mental health as dating is-almost more. We need time when we're just doing something for the hell of it. I love to write, but that doesn't mean I don't need to take a break from it sometimes. I love to read but I even have to step away from that every once and a while.

Sometimes I want to just play a mindless video game or go sit outside in the sun and just enjoy. I'm telling you to make sure you put time on your to do and find a way to mark it off. Do whatever is mindless and relaxing, whatever it is just do it.

Happy Enjoyment Time :)

Pick Up

(For anyone who visited yesterday...I'm doing better. They released me from the hospital last night. The decided diagnosis was inflammation around my heart and in my chest caused by a flare up of my Lupus. Thanks for the well wishes :) )

Passionate People Perform Pleasingly

This to do is so much fun to do, right?

Pick Up

This is also known as cleaning or straightening or housework. Which means I need not explain, we all know of this dreaded word. At least it's dreaded for me. With a five and four year old that run crazy through the house no matter what I say, it makes cleaning a very constant to do. I'm not sure I ever get to really mark it off.

I do find there are a few things that make it easier. Picking up in the mornings or in the evenings, or both. Make it fun-this is actually easy if you have little ones. Put on some music and dance around as you pick up stuff. Or turn it into a game. If you have a lot to pick up, make a mini to do that has things that need picked up. I know that may not sound helpful, but it is.

Just figure out what works best for you, and get it done.

Happy Picking Up :)

(Sorry about the late post)

Nuke

Nuking's Not Necessary

Still a To Do List post. Are some of you wondering? Trying to figure out what we're going to blow up?

This is when you take your To Do List and go outside and bomb it. F-it. No one likes having stuff to do all the time, right?

Okay, not really. Sorry to disappoint anyone who thought something awesome would come from this word.

Nuke

Originally this would be the part on the to do where we talk about cooking. Since I needed it to coincide with N, I made it Nuke. Ya know, like when you cook something in the microwave? Of course, doing that is not cooking. But Nuking something in the microwave is considered 'cooking' sometimes, so I used it as my word in place of cook.

We all have those days when it's been such a long day and your tired. Who wants to cook anything when your tired? Not me. But I have kids and therefore I have to cook all the time. There are some nights when I throw something easy in the microwave, but I prefer to eat for real food. I guess, homemade food is more what I mean.

This is another one of those that doesn't have a simple solution. Find a motivator and use it, whatever will get it done for you. If you have a spouse you need to feed, use that. If you have kids, use them. Find something that makes you say, okay, I have to feed them so I have to cook. Then, just do it. Don't think about how much you don't want to do it or how tired you are. Just get in the kitchen and get it done.

Enlightening, right? Sure it was. :)

Happy Nuking :D

Homework

Yep, it's another to do. I know there will be some of you who this doesn't relate to, but I also know there are many who have kids or go to school themselves (or both).

Homework Honestly Hasn't Happened Happily Here

Homework

Whether it's homework for you, your kids, or both-homework can be a challenge to knock off of the to do. Even my five year old hates doing homework. Some things that help get it done.

Homework is best tackled right after school (maybe right after school, after snack-I know my kids are starving when they get home), when there hasn't been time to get out of school-mode and into I'm-at-home-and-want-to-do-anything-that-doesn't-involve-school-mode. Plus, if you do homework right when you get home, it's done and out of the way and you get the remainder of the evening to do whatever.

Another thing that works is finding ways to make it fun. Find something around the house to incorporate into the homework process.

Finally, if you have kids (or even nieces or nephews that your helping do homework), make sure you at least appear to be enjoying the homework. If kids see adults looking like they despise doing the work, they will despise it too. I have always been that kid who thinks homework is fun all the time, but I know there are a lot of people who don't think so.

BTW-finding ways to make it fun AND tackling homework immediately is directed at the adults who are in school as well. It's easy to get caught up in the relief that you're at home and done with your school day, but your 'home time' is much more relaxing if your 'homework time' is out of the way.

Happy, um-Homeworking? :)

Date

(Sticking with my schedule, this is still a To Do List post)

Delightful Dates Don't Dare Disappoint

Date

This may sound like an odd To Do, but really-it's necessary. We don't want to go crazy as we go about our day to day, always busy and never taking time to enjoy other's company. Dating can mean you and your significant other taking time to go to a movie or dinner, just the two of you. It can mean you and a friend (or group of friends) going out to a bar and having a couple drinks. It can even mean you and your significant other having a night in, cuddled up on the couch playing video games if that's something you enjoy.

The point is, we have to have date nights at some point or we'll become lonely hobbits/homebodys bordering a very thin line between sanity and a padded room. Just saying. And while it may be hard to find time for a date night, it's necessary, so make the time. The best thing to do? Pick a day (depending on your schedule, this can be once a week or once a month, but no less than once a month), and stick with it. If you need motivation, just picture yourself alone, in a robe, scruffy hair-day after day. We need interaction, so interact (outside of your online friends, no matter how wonderful they may be-yes, mine are Definitely wonderful :D <3  )

Happy Dating :)

Errands/Appointments

Depending on what kind of To Do Lister you may be, this one can be on the list several times a week, once a week, or even tied in with Grocery Shopping. For me, it varies. There are weeks when I have errands to run every day and there are weeks when I pick one day for my errand day.

Errands/Appointments

There are so many different kinds of errands, they will vary by person. Errands are a part of my non-writer job, that's what I do-things for other people. Sometimes I take other peoples kids to school or pick them up. I do all of the shopping for my mom-even gifts for people. Hell, sometimes even gifts for me (of course, I don't know that at the time). Shopping in general can be a common errand for people. Some have dry cleaning or getting their oil changed. I don't know what else, but you have them. Even appointments: salon, Doctor, Dentist, taking your pets to the vet. They're all errands that need to get done. We may not like it. But I have some tips...

If you need to make a Doctor appointment, think about your schedule. Is there a time when you will already be out of the house? I find it best to have an appointment around then. If I'm already out, it's easier to add another thing to do, rather than being at home and having to get out to go somewhere I don't want to.( This applies to all appointments.)

When you have shopping to get done (other than grocery) it's easier if you decide where you want to go and try to pick places that are close together. That way, you go from one place to the other. You will use up less time, gas and whatever else. You may also want to think like the appointments and try to get your shopping done at a time when you're already leaving the house for something else.

If you have to get something done on your car that is a same-day kind of thing, that only takes a few hours. This is another good time to knock a few things off the list. You can pick a place that's close to something else you need to get done. You know, kill two birds with one stone.

These may seem like obvious tips, but my sister never does them. She procrastinates on making appointments because she doesn't feel like getting out. When she does finally make an appointment, it's in the middle of the day. So, of course, she winds up irritated that she has to get out in the middle of whatever she was doing. When she has errands, she's all over the place. Going from one side of town to the other. I remember one time we were shopping together and she drove to a Target on 21st St. Then she decided we should go to Best Buy, which was at 71st St. Guess what's right across from that Best Buy (in the same shopping center)? Yep, Target. It was pointless and a waste of driving time and gas. She does that all the time.

So, plan out your errands/appointments and it will be much easier to get them done.

Happy, um, Erranding/Appointmenting?  :)

Grocery Shop

Before I get to the To Do for the day, I have something to say (dang, I can't help but rhyme all the time :p ). Anywho- It took me forever to gain followers. At times I would make posts and think, yeah, there's no one here to read them. But I kept posting and kept thinking of things I could do to draw in some people. I know a lot of my readers have a ton on their own blogs. But for me, the 32 I have is fantastic. So, I want to say, thank you everyone who follows my blog. Happy to have you here! :D

On to the To Do...

Grocery Shop

This isn't usually on the daily list, but it's on a list somewhere. We have to eat, therefore we grocery shop. I myself am back and forth on the subject-sometimes I enjoy going to the grocery store and other times I despise it. The days I can't stand the grocery stores, I have to force myself to go. There are times when I find inventive ways to make the most of what I do have just so I can put it off another day or two.

We must grocery shop though, so how do you do it? For those of us with kids, it is a little easier to make ourselves. Our kids are top priority and we cannot let them starve, so there's one motivator.

As a writer I have a few things I need when I'm writing. 1. I ALWAYS have something to drink, the entire time I'm writing (water, tea, coffee, juice, occasional Dr.Pepper). 2. I need to snack, it can be something as simple as a handful of peanuts every once and a while (there are times at night when I'm writing from 10 until 2, 3, 4 or even 5 in the morning). 3. Something sweet-you could say this goes along with a snack, but it's not really the same (for me). Sometimes I eat a piece of candy and sometimes it's a candy bar. For some reason, something sweet aids in my writing process.

So, that's another motivator. I know there are other writers out there who have things that they like to have on hand when they're writing, whether it's a certain drink or snack. Therefore, we need to grocery shop to insure we have those things.

Finally, what are we if we whither away due to lack of food/drink? What good would we be? That is the last motivator to help get Grocery Shop checked off the list. We may not like it, but we have to do it.

Happy Grocery Shopping :)

School

First up on the non writer To Do is:

School

If you have school to get yourself to and you are a writer-it can be so hard.. So, how  can you do it? Stop staying up late to write! NOT. This is only a not because, let's be real, it just isn't that simple. We are writers, therefore, we write. It may keep us up until three in the morning, but you can't say-HEY Creativity, leave me alone so I can go to bed...I have school in the morning. Sad, but true. Writing is a passion. It's not a light that you switch off because it's time to go nighty night.

Same goes for those of us who have kiddos to get to school in the morning/or picked up in the afternoon. Our writing has to be shut off, but how to do it can be a mystery. Same reason as above...It's just not simple.

Those of us who attend school AND have children to get to/from school....hang on, give me a minute to praise you.........Okay. No really though. It's complicated to manage one of those things and the fact that you manage both deserves a pat on the back.

The problem is that there is no real solution. Yes, school is important. Yes, sleep is important-especially to do well in school or to get our kids to school on time. You can't cut your thinking off at night, no matter how much you need/want to. That means the best way to make sure you are able to get yourself and/or your kids to school on time is to...just do it. Hehe, you all thought I would change it up for these huh? Nope.

Well, maybe a little. If you're like me and just can't switch your characters off at night (which many writers are), then set an alarm for the morning. Set 2 or 3 if you need to. Honestly, I set 10----yeah, makes me go :o too. I do it though. Plus, I get everything ready the night before. Sounds like an obvious, but not everyone takes the time to do it. Those two things alone will help. The rest is pure motivation. You have to get to school/get your kids to/from school-so you use that to motivate you to get it done.

I've learned that if I try to make my characters stop talking because I say so, they talk louder. So, I don't try anymore. I just focus on the fact that I have to get my kids to school on time and pick them up on time. That, with the alarms and a little pre-planning the night before helps me accomplish this to do.

Happy Schooling or something :)

So Little Time

So it's time to work on tackling those non writer to dos. The list goes on and on, at least for most people I know. For these to dos, I will be making some of them work with my A to Z Challenge posts. Those don't start until April though. Here are some things I will be talking about:

School
Grocery Shop
Errands
Bedtime
Date
Homework
Job
Nuke
Pick up
Time
Volunteering

Some of you may think these topics are strange and many will think they don't apply to them. But, it may surprise you once the posts are up, so come back and take a look. Even if I don't give you anything that helps with your to do, it may be interesting all the same.

Happy Monday :)

To Do List: Share

This is the last to do on the writer to do. Next week I'm going to be starting the non writer to do.

Share:

This will actually be a pretty short post. It's quite simple...

When you're connecting, reading, learning, even researching-you will come across something that you love. A Tweet that you retweet, a blog post that you tweet a link to-or post on your Facebook or blog. If you enjoyed it, or found it informative, or even thought it was horrible-share it! The way to do it? As soon as you find a post or tweet or whatever else you feel like sharing, do it immediately. If you're including sharing with the other things you're already doing, what's another minute or two to share something you think others should see/read?

See, short and sweet. A simple way to wrap up the Writer's To Do List. Now we are all having a better time checking everything off our to dos, right? Of course we are.

Happy Sharing :)

To Do List: Blog

Oh I know, I know-not everyone blogs-right? Why?!?!

Blog:

I love to read writers blogs. I didn't used to. In fact it's only been about a year since I started reading blogs. I read them all the time now though. Blogging helps us connect with other writers, with other people like ourselves, other people who share our interests.

It's hard to find time to blog, but you should still do it. With all the scheduling options, it makes it even easier. For instance, I'm writing this post on March 4, but you are just now reading it today, March 12. I have a little time right now, so that's why I'm writing a few posts in advance. I do have other posts on my blog that I don't always schedule, or that I don't schedule very far in advance. The point is, blogging helps you gain an audience, so you should find a way to do it. I'm not telling you to, just suggesting. And the way you mark Blog of the to do, is find free time in your schedule to fit it in. Write some posts in advance and schedule them to post at different times. Also, make a blogging plan. Figure out what you want to talk about and how often you want to post. I post everyday because that's what I want to do. Some people post 3 days a week, some only once a week. Just decide what works best for you and do it.

Aren't these short posts nice :p

Happy Blogging :)

To Do List: Research

Today's to do may sound a little like Monday's, but it's not really. Also, this will most likely not be a daily thing, it may not even be a weekly thing-but it will still be on the to do somewhere.

Research:

This is something you absolutely HAVE to do. Every book you write is going to require some type of research. For some it may be minor things, and for others (like my first book in my vampire series) it will be A LOT of researching. This is definitely one of those-You find time to do it, because you need to-kind of to dos. There is no way around researching for a novel. Even if you write non fiction, you still have to do some type of research for it. You want your novel to hold truth of some things, no matter what your genre is. If you don't research, your story may lack believability. Your reader is going to want believability.

So, make the time to check Research of the list. YAY! This is a short one. Sorry I can't give more helpful advice here, but really-JUST DO IT.

Happy Researching :)

To Do List: Learn

We're still going strong and everyone is having an easier time checking things off their to do. So here's the next thing up, and this one doesn't always have to come daily.

LEARN:

Now, of course we all hope to learn something everyday (or at least several times a week). However, what I'm talking about here is learning in respect to your craft-writing. There are so many things we need to know and it never stops. The business, agents, publishers, how to's, and the list goes on and on. If you are a writer who writes with the desire that your books will be published for others to read-then you have to learn the business.

Websites, other writers, blogs, books, etc. are all tools for learning. We use them, we need them, and we must find the time to do it. Learning takes up a lot of time, and I know it's hard to check it off. We want to write, that's why we are writers. But if you want to go somewhere with your writing, you have to learn. You have to go to sites like Agent Query and learn about how the publishing business works, learn about what agents want, learn how to write that beautiful-agent grabbing query. Go to blogs like From The Write Angle and learn from people who have been there and done that-real, genuine people who were once in your shoes-writing with hopes that one day they will have published work for the world to read. Don't forget to go to writer communities like Agent Query Connect and learn from people just like you-what they do and don't do, what has worked and what hasn't. And you have to go to blogs by other writers, like Alex J Cavanaugh's blog and C.K. Bryant's blog who are both published authors that are also normal people, who have been there and understand what it's like. Their posts can be teaching posts without that being the original intent. It will help you learn something, without feeling like it's a "lesson". But make sure you go to blogs from writers who have not been published yet, they can teach you things too. (Like E.M LaBonte's Blog and Terri Bruce's Blog)

The point is-writers have to learn about the writing world. It is not always an easy thing to work into your day (or week), but it's important if you are planning on actually doing something with what you write. The fact that we can learn from various things, makes it easier to mark Learn off the to do. You can learn while you're connecting, or you can go somewhere looking for a specific topic, but however you do it-DO IT. Time to learn can vary, depending on what exactly you are learning, but work it in. There have been plenty of times I have learned something in less than 10 minutes or even in the time it took me to read a blog post. It can be done quickly if you don't have a lot of time to squeeze it in. But if you want writing to be more than a hobby, find the time to do it.

I know my posts are beginning to sound the same- Just find the time, because you need to-but that's really what each thing on your to do comes down to. You need to do these things, so do them.

Happy Learning :)

To Do List: Review

This is more a weekly or biweekly or even monthly type of thing, but it's still on the to do (at least you should have it on your to do)

Review:

Yep, it's on there, and yep, I'm talking about reviewing that book you just read. I already talked to you about reading, so I know you're doing it, right? Yes, of course you are. Now, that book you just finished? Go review it somewhere. Even if all you do is go to Goodreads and mark it with five stars and write, "I loved it!" (Or 1 star and say, "I hated it!") There are several places you can go to review a book, and you don't have to write an excessive review. Just take the time to put your feelings about the book out there. Good or bad, reviews are important. So many people out there base what book they are going to read on what the reviews have to say about it. So many authors look for your reviews to find out how their audience feels about their writing.

How do you make the time for this in your to do? Well, since we all read at different paces, it's that much simpler. This is not a weekly to do, but it should be on your list regardless. Fit in a time to say something about each book you read. It's only going to take up five minutes max (well unless you feel like you need to write an excessive review-which is okay, it just may take more time.), and you can do it first chance you get after the book is done. My Goodreads and Amazon reviews typically take a total of five minutes to write both. Then, by my choice, I write a blog post about the book. Since I can schedule blogs to post when I choose, it's easy to make time to write up a review on my blog. Point is, authors need to have reviews for their books, and readers need to have the option to check out the reviews before they read the book.

Yes, another short and sweet one. Makes some of my other to do posts look way too long, but it's another easy thing to check off the to do list.

Happy Reviewing :)

To Do List: Promote

Still checking off those to dos. Next up on the list, perhaps one of the most dreaded on the list:

PROMOTE:

It's almost a dirty word, isn't it? Promote, so important for us writers, yet such a menace. Wouldn't it be great if we could just connect and then leave it at that? Just count on everyone we connect with to go out and buy our book (or visit our blog/website/etc)? Yes, it would be, but it just doesn't work out that way.

Therefore, we must promote ourselves. This is where those connections we've made come in handy. Jump on Twitter and tweet something about your book/blog/website/etc. Get on Facebook and write a post about it. We have to promote ourselves if we plan on doing anything with our work. It's just the way things go. Easiest way to accomplish this to do? Work it in with your Connection time. I know, I know...you've just figured out how to work making connections into your daily to do, and here I am suggesting you add something more to that time-frame. Yes, yes I am. It's okay though, I promise, don't freak out. All you have to do is spend a few extra minutes to add a little something about your "product" while your reaching out to connect with people. It will not take much more time, you can add the details into your tweet or whatever you are doing to build connections. A tweet here, Facebook post there, or even an email to some of your connections and BAM you've checked Promote off the to do list for the day.

This was a short and to the point one, because it's just so simple. We already touched on making connections, so it's just a very little bit more work to add promoting into that time.

Happy Promoting :)

To Do List: Connect

I know I've said this about some other things on the To Do List, but THIS is the most IMPORTANT thing on your list. Writer or not, everyone needs it.

Connect:

We all need to connect with other people at some point in our day. We need the support we get from those connections. You may only have one true friend in life, but your acquaintances are important too(heck they may one day turn into people you consider true friends). Support is a vital factor to survive life, it just is.

Connecting with other people is especially important for writers. As a writer, you will have something you want to promote-be it your website, blog, book, or any variety of things. You may even want to promote something for someone else. Even if you're only connected to ten people, it will still aid you in whatever you are trying to get out there. You Tweet or post on your Facebook, two of your followers/friends re-tweet or share your tweet/post and then a few of their friends do the same thing, and so on. Word of mouth is a fantastic way to get yourself out there, and you need to connections to spread the word.

I have not been on Twitter very long, but I love it. I never thought I would, but I do. I've discovered books, online writing conferences, great sites with fun things to do with my kids (@KidsPlay Fun Kids Stuff) and even the IndieGoGo Donation Page to Help Joshua Fight Cancer. The point is, had I stayed away from Twitter, continued to think it was pointless, I would never have found some(if not all) of this stuff. We have to build connections, that's the way the world works.

We need people to support us and people to give our support to. We need people to help us thrive, people to help thrive, people to thrive with us. To accomplish this, you have to jump into the social media pool. Twitter, Facebook, Google +, Klout, and all those many many places to connect with other people. I will not lie and say this is an easy thing to check off your to do, but it is not impossible. The importance means you should schedule time into your day to connect. In even five minutes you could: Follow ten new people on Twitter, re-tweet five Tweets, Post a Tweet, Update you Facebook status, and follow back all your followers. And depending on your internet speed and how fast you are with a computer, you may even have a little time to spare. Five minutes and you've already made numerous connections. So how do you mark this off the to do? How do you not?

Happy Connecting! :)

To Do List: Read

Every writer must also be a reader. So why is it so hard to find time to read? I used to have a major problem marking this one off my to do, but I have figured out ways to accomplish it. So today's to do is

READ:

Books are important in life, and everyone, writer or not, should be a reader. With all the other various things that we have to get done in a day, or even things to work on, our books(TBR lists) get left behind. It's time to put read on your to do list, and actually mark it off.

So, I told you that you need to do it, now let's talk about HOW to do it.

Reading is one of the easiest things to check off the to do list. I know it may not seem like it, but it truly is. There will be days when you think your to do for the day is so massive that there is no way to fit time in to read anything, but you are wrong. Everyone has, at the VERY least, five minutes of 'free time' in their day. I know you may not think you have any free time, but it's there, I promise.

It is important to read, period, there is no way around it. Reading is a must, and if you even have five minutes to do it, you should. So to mark it off, look over your entire to do, and find those gaps where you have free time. When you find those gaps, schedule in your reading time for the day. It will be there, you just have to look for it.

Happy Reading :)

To Do List: Revise/Edit

Next up on the To Do:

Revise/Edit:

Some of us writers may think this is not on our everyday to do, you're wrong. Revising/editing is something we do daily. You revise your ideas for your next MS, you revise one of your MSs, you run through one of your current WIPs and edit, the blog post you just wrote-you revise/edit it. No matter what the task, editing is going to happen each day.

I myself have a hard time marking this off of my to do list, so I understand that it is definitely a difficult task to accomplish. However, it's not an impossible one. Just like with Write, you also have to automatically set a time for Revise the minute you put it on the to do. Pick what you want to edit for the day, pick when you want to edit, and then do it. Even if you say-I'm going to revise this paragraph, it may not be much, but you have to do it. Our MSs are our masterpieces, usually, and they should be treated as such. If you write something, you can't just think it's brilliant after the first draft, or even the second. My first MS has had so may drafts I lost count. Doesn't make any difference because I want it to be as polished as it can be.

When you are revising a MS, it can be even harder to actually mark this off the list. It's your baby, you are attached and don't want to change a thing. You need to. No one can write a perfect MS the first time round, it's impossible. So, how I said even if it's one paragraph? That's exactly what I mean. Or it could be a few sentences. If you are overwhelmed with just the thought of having to edit anything, it's easier to accomplish if you set your goal low. One paragraph may not be much, but in the end, it'll feel good that you can mark Revise of your to do. And that is the best advice I can give to anyone who struggles with getting this task off of their list-aim for a minimum revision, something you can get done. If you do more than your goal, you'll feel super fantastic, and if all you do is manage that one paragraph, or even those couple of sentences-you'll still feel accomplished because that was the goal for the day.

Make sure your goal is an obtainable one for you. Then set the time, and just do it. When you're feeling like the revisions are sucking you dry-go back to your group and vent or whine. But if you remember the importance of editing your work, it will help you work harder to check this off your list.

Happy Revising :)
