Thoughtful Tuesday - Fame

Today, I've decided to post random thoughts (sort of) that fall under one topic...

Fame

Yep, that's the topic. It's vague, I agree, so let me unvague it(yes, I made that one up :p  ). When I first began blogging, I followed some blogs (and still do) that have tons of followers and comments. I was like, 'Damn, I want that.' It took months for me to even get ten followers. And now I'm up to 134. I still don't get many comments, but I don't get much time to go comment on others, so I can't complain much.

I will read, follow, and comment (when I can) on any blog whether they do the same for me. It just seems like the natural thing to do. I love to support people because that's just my personality. I get off (yes, that's the phrase choice that came to mind :p ) on supporting people. That's why I do my Mention Mondays and my TAG!s, it's even why I do my book reviews on Wednesdays. Supporting others makes me feel good.

I've become such a fan of the self-pub and Indie authors because I've found so many wonderful people and books. They don't get a quarter of the recognition they deserve. There are books out there that are better than Laurell K Hamilton and James Patterson (both of these authors are two of my favorites btw) and yet they don't have half of the fanbase that LKH and JP have. But they DESERVE it.

The Indie and Self-pubbed authors don't boast and brag about their awesomeness, most of them are so humble they don't even realize it, but sadly nowhere near enough other people realize it either. LKH has an FB page and she can post a picture of her dog and get thousands of comments on it. Why? Because she's 'famous'. But does fame make her dog cuter than Author Jane Doe? No, it doesn't. Yet people treat it that way. (Yes, I chose dog pics, but it's just to give an example that demonstrates what I'm saying.)

We live in a world full of celebrities and people are all over those celebs, but I never get it. They're just people. Self-pubbers and Indies are just people too, so what about them? What does it take to get people to see their names? They write wonderfully, they interact with fans and treat them as friends, and they humbly and graciously accept compliments and they're under appreciated.

I'm rambling, sorry :/  But I do have a point...

Fame is measured by the number of people who are willing to recognize the 'celebrity.' I follow several blogs, many of them published authors, and I think they're all famous. Alex J Cavanaugh is famous in my eyes. If I met him I'd be slightly fan-girlish because he's just that awesome. I recently talked about Karen Amanda Hooper (here) and CK Bryant (here). If I met either of them, I'd be a bit fan-girlish there too. These are only three of the awesome people I've had the privilege of getting to know more. And each of them are awesome in their own way, but they're awesome in a special way too. They're my friends even though I've never met them in person (and even if they don't think of me that way :p  ). With Karen and CK, I've exchanged a few emails and Tweets, and every encounter was special to me. With Alex, it's his comments on my blog as well as replies to my comments on his, but every time, it's special. Knowing them, makes me feel like I know some famous people and they all deserve that feeling.

They are famous, even if I don't think enough people realize that. Which now brings me to the point (sorry this has been so long). It's okay to be a fan of someone whose name is EVERYWHERE, someone who has a HUGE fanbase. BUT make sure to recognize the other people who are famous, yet unrecognized. Brag about these under appreciated celebrities, tweet about them, 'like' them, follow them, talk talk talk about them. They deserve as much fame as any other celeb out there, some of them deserve it more. The unrecognized celebrities (especially in the Author industry) DESERVE to be recognized. Spread the word, tell the world, '*Insert name* is AWESOME and everyone should know.'

Now, go tell it!

Happy Thoughts :)

Musings

Musings Make Motivational Moments

Since I had some random thoughts this week, I figure I'll end the week with a few M ones.

Musings

Michael Myers: I hear this name and think of the killer from Halloween. However, there are real people named this. Who could name their kid after a murderer (even a fictional one), because I couldn't. I mean, who says, 'I'm going to call you...Michael. Yes, Michael Myers. What a perfect name for my sweet angel.' Yep, that's not weird at all.

Milkmen: What happened to them? I know some places actually still have them, or they have been brought back---Do you have milkmen in your area?

Mario: Why is he the star? What's wrong with Luigi? I mean, Mario is okay and all, but Luigi has always been my favorite. And in all actuality, once Yoshi came on the scene, he won me over. I love my original Mario Bros, but the later game variations with Yoshi were fun.

Money: I'm one of those people who hate money. Sounds strange? Oh well. I hate how 'important' money is. I hate that we have to have money to live. I hate that the amount of money one has, determines their worth. It's ridiculous. I know money is important because that's the way of life, but I hate that life has to be that way.

Mom: This is such a strong and important word. Moms do so much and put up with so much. Take a moment to appreciate a mom in your life, they're VIPs.

Moist: Perhaps it's the books I read, or the gutter my mind likes to frequent...I don't know why this word popped into my mind.

Moving on...

MS: Funny story here...I was talking about my MS and how it was really starting to irritate me and how frustrating revisions were. The person I was talking to asks me why I felt the need to discuss my monthly woman thing with them. Yeah, awkward moment, for them. After I laughed at them, why would I be talking about that? And what the hell would I mean if I was talking about that and said revisions of my MS (I'm not sure how to revise that other thing )? Hello non-writers out there who don't know (or even new ones who may not know) MS=Manuscript. So, the person was a little embarrassed but we both ended up with a good laugh in the end.

Much: As in this post has too much going on.

Many: As in this post has too many words. OR as in how do people end up with too many words in their MS? Mine has too few, I've been having to work very hard at adding more. I'm still only just over 62k, and being that it's a Paranormal Romance, that puts me at least 18k short.

Okay, I'm done.

Happy Musing :)

Keeping Distant, Kit-Kats, and other random 'K's

Knowledge Kneaded Knocks Karma

So I said I wasn't going to break my schedule, but I am. Today should have been a TAG! but it didn't work out how I wanted. So-here's a poem and some more randomness. :)

Keeping Distant

She admires him
Only because he's 'great'
'Perfect'
Enticing in every way

Tears form in her eyes
Resentment in her mind
Anytime she thinks of the consequence
Of everything she likes

Keeps hesitating
To really open up
Restrains her every impulse
Inside of what she loves

Staying right with him
Each step of the way
Yet shielding her heart
Protecting it from break.

(That was one from the archives.)

And on to the randomness...

Kit-Kat: I really like this candy, but I despise the commercials for them. They irk me every time.

Kat Williams: I don't know exactly what it is, but I find him to be hilarious.

King: As in Stephen King. One of the most insanely awesome insane writers ever. There are a few of his books that I can't stand, but for the most part I love him.

Krueger: My dad is the person who got me into horror movies (my mom got me into horror books), yep awesome parents I have-and I actually mean that. I was 2 when I first sat down with my dad and watched Nightmare On Elm Street. I had nightmares for a long time, but when the second one came out, did I pass? Nope. Dad and I sat on the couch and watched that one too. And with each new one that came out, the cycle continued.
On the same K...one year(I was around 11 or so) at the fair there was a haunted house that you could walk through. It had 'wax' figures of people/creatures from scary movies. (Chuckie, Jason, Leatherface and yep...Krueger.) So a friend of mine and I were walking through and we got to Freddy. My friend starts talking big shit about how lame Freddy was and whatnot. We're all laughing it up and then-BAM!-Freddy jumps up, over the rope, and starts chasing us. Yeah...some of the figures were real people in costume. Even though I knew the person wasn't really Freddy, it scared the crap out of me. But it was one hell of an adrenaline rush.

King Koopa: Now a few Tuesdays back I talked about classic video games. And Mario is definitely a classic. For me, Koopa is one of the best antagonists in a video game ever.

And that concludes my random thoughts for today. Although I'm sure it bugs me more than my readers, next week I will definitely be back on schedule. In fact...I have a pretty awesome TAG! already set up. ;)

Happy K-day :)

Thoughtful Tuesday

This is my new Tuesday title. Every Tuesday will now by a thoughtful one. It will either be a poem or some random things, but thoughtful all the same ;)

Why is time management so important, yet so hard to accomplish?

Am I the only person who thinks that it would be awesome if vampires, werewolves/shape-shifters, telepaths, magical witches, etc were real?

On that subject...why are aliens so facinating to people?

When drivers hit a certain age, they should have to take the driving test again. I honestly think there are some people around 60+ who should never be behind the wheel.

Is there a point to being married to someone whom you barely see and when they are actually at home, you wish they weren't? Especially when the person doesn't contribute to any of the bills, groceries, house/yard work? (For anyone who does not know, I myself am not married and have never been, and am not sure that I ever will be. So this is not about me) I'm just thinking that surely I am not the only person who thinks that is an odd 'marriage'.

Happy Tuesday :)

The Versatile Blogger Award

I have to post twice today, but it's worth it...I got my first blog award, YAY!

I was just hanging out, working on revisions when all of the sudden I get a message on Twitter from @geekytendency. It said there was something for me on his blog. So, I go to it and what was there?

So, thanks Jeremy :) Everyone, go check out his blog. He talks about some pretty fun stuff over there.

I have a few instructions, they go like so:

1. Create a post for the Versatile Blogger Award.

2. In the same post, thank the blogger who gave you the award and put a link back to their blog.

3. Nominate 15 other people for this award and let them know.

4. Post seven random things about yourself.

5. Include these rules in your post.

So, here are my Seven Random Things:

1. I am a very, very loyal person. And I mean, LOYAL. If I care about someone or something in any kind of way, it takes a string of major things to break my loyalty to that person or thing.

2. I sing. I even had a group in middle and high school, but we never went anywhere. I rap a little too. And I can for real sing, not just that-I think I can, but I really sound like a sick howling dog. My passion is writing though, which is why I don't try to make anything of my singing.

3. In middle school, I pierced my own belly button (with a safety pin) it hurt. What hurt even worse though was when a 'friend' of mine ripped it out. Ouch.

4. When I was three, my next door neighbor's dog bit me on my nose and I had to go to the ER. When I was 5, a kid pushed me off the merry-go-round at school, busted my head open and I had to get 5 stitches. On my sixth birthday, I was riding my bike and crashed it. I knocked my front tooth out and had to have a false tooth for a year or so. When I was around 7 years old, my sister shut my finger in the sliding door on my moms' van. I broke my wrist when I was 9. I cracked my collar bone when I was 13. My neighbor gave me a black eye from a snowball when I was around 14...I'm just a tad bit accident prone.

5. From September to April/May I consume a total of about 3-4 pots of coffee. Strong coffee. In the other months I consume about 11/2-2 pots. But that's because I switch to tea and can't even count how much of that I drink-it's a lot though. And I still find room to fit at least 1/2 gallon of water a day.

6. I have long hair-like down to my butt long. And I am so attached to it that I cannot cut it. Even in the summer months when it gets so hot and sticky here in Oklahoma, I will not cut my hair. Not even a trim, though I know it needs it. When I do convince myself to trim it, I cry-yep, I cry for the loss of my hair.

7. I used to hate You Tube and still don't care much for it. BUT I am obsessed with Goopery. It's a vlog by a guy named Luke, and it's funny. I love it. He even has a side channel now-Gooperdom, and I love that one too.

I went through my reader and picked at random. I love all the blogs I follow, so I wasn't sure who to pick. Some of you may already have this award, sorry to repeat, but hey-nothing wrong with having the same award more than once, right? Anyway, here's my fifteen:

Joey F
E.M. Labonte
Dean C. Rich
Jacqueline Gardner
Jean Oram
Jemi Fraser
Alex Cavanaugh
C.K. Bryant
Michael Offutt
Cherie
DL Hammons
Tiffany M.
Riley Redgate
Jayne D
Bloggit Write

Happy Awarding! :)

Yeah...

I don't have a clue really where my title for this came from. Again, there is no poem today, sorry busy bee over here. So here are some random thoughts...

Every kid at some point (at least those that I have known) always sing "The Song That Never Ends." For anyone who may not know it: "This is the song that never ends, yes it goes on and on my friend(s) some people started singing it not knowing what it was, and they'll continue singing it forever just because." (Repeat over and over and over...) SO- is there an old man/woman somewhere still singing this song? I mean, it's supposed to go on and on, right?

Why is it called the "terrible twos" when it doesn't REALLY hit until around 3?

Why do so many people not know that a woman carries a baby for ten months, not nine?

Why is it easier to write an entire book, all the way through to the final FINAL draft, than it is to write the synopsis/query/blurb/etc.?

Why are actors/actresses/singers/rappers more famous than authors/poets? They are the real celebrities.

Why do waitresses/waiters make so little money? I don't know how it is elsewhere-or even what minimum wage is as of right now for servers, but when I was a waitress, min wage was 2.13/hr. It is almost impossible to live on that, even with the tips. Yet, servers go through all kinds of hell. When food is cooked wrong, the server gets the complaints. When the cooks are moving slow, customers blame the servers. This list could go on and on, but the point is the same: Servers bust their asses and make practically nothing, why? (Remember that next time you're at a restaurant, btw)

The youngest generation of kids these days will never know the joys of Atari/Original Nintendo/Original Gameboy. They will never know what it's like to take have to blow in a game to make it work right.
What a thin, simple, rectangular controller feels like in their hands-how easy it fits and how much better you can play. What a real joystick controller looks like. A black box, with one orange button and a white stick in the middle. They won't know how Mario looks without the digital enhancement, or what Frogger is really supposed to look like. They won't know that there were big, rectangular, hand-held games that didn't even have a color screen. Or how about what it's like to flip a silver switch (yes I really mean switch) to turn the game on. The joys of gaming in the "digital age" is just unfair to our younger generations. It's so sad....

That concludes my random thoughts. Happy Tuesday :)
